New Letters To Esterhazy 4th mvt

another improvisation by Rupert Guenther

New Letters To Esterhazy is a set of 2 sonatas for solo violin commissioned and recorded by ABC Classic FM in Melbourne 2007. This is from the first sonata in 6 movements. This 4th movement is one of the beautiful reflective improvisations which flowed out that day. There were no second takes or overdubs - the recording is exactly as it happened. My good Italian concert violin was under repair, and Melbourne violin maker Paul Davies loaned me his latest violin for this recording session, a copy of a Testore violin. I had no time to practice on it, just straight into the ABC Iwaki Auditorium where the recording was made. Exploring the unique sounds of the instrument itself became an integral part of the improvisation.
